EXAM 4 Review
**For this exam, you will need to have a general knowledge of each disorder we discussed in class (name, symptoms) as well as the general etiology (most likely cause). I will also be asking you to reflect on each disorder I put on the exam like I ask you to reflect in class. For instance, how would you feel if you had this disorder, if your family members had it, etc. In my brain....your studying would look like this:
MOOD DISORDERS - Types: Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymia, Bipolar Disorder
Major Depression - very sad, sadness is noticible, lack of interest in most things, potentially suicidal - might be genetic (brain chemicals) but also supported by environment (stress) and cognitions (can't stop self from thinking about bad stuff)
Dysthymia - less sad, Eeyore, less symptoms, able to participate in life but without joy - same causes as Major Depression
Bipolar Disorder - manic and depressed, mania is risk-taking, thinking you are invincible, on top of world - highly genetic and definitely brain chemicals
If you knew that basic information, you would do well on the exam.
**For personality disorders...I want you to know the two in the book - Antisocial and Borderline.
**Also, please know what to do and what not to do if you encounter someone who is suicidal.
